Previously on keever: TV was a wasteland decimated by the strike. It didn't really matter because I was busy moving anyway. TV returned to both the airwaves and, after a visit from the DirecTV man, my living room. And it was good.

Brief (okay, brief-ish) thoughts on everything that's aired in its respective home country so far.

Torchwood )

Doctor Who )

The Office )

Battlestar Galactica )

Lost )

I was going to end on my personal potential 2008-2009 TV schedule, but damn! That's enough for one day, I think. Several, in fact.

This new Lost season four promo is composed of 100% awesome.

Spoilery, natch. )

After that finale, I knew I'd be really excited about the show coming back, but January 31st pretty much can't come soon enough for me now. Eight episodes, full season, whatever -- I'll take whatever they can give us.

Okay, can we talk about these Emmy nominations, please? )

The Emmys air Sunday, September 16th at 8PM on Fox, so they'll be pulled off the air after the first hour performs disappointingly in the ratings.

Lost 3.22/23: Through the Looking Glass )

The Sopranos (a show I enjoy reading others' impressions of more than writing about myself) and what's left of the third series of Doctor Who aside, my TV blogging season is now over. And it's a good thing, too. My poor tired wrists need a break! But man, has it been fun.

DUDE.

(I'm sorry. I normally roll my eyes at essentially content-free posts like this, but seriously -- wow. That was fucking phenomenal, and I can't quite form complete thoughts at the moment but also could not contain said wow. More later.)

The upfronts have made one thing abundantly clear: I'm going to have a lot of free time on my hands over the next eight or nine months.

Veronica Mars? Despite Dawn Ostroff's smoke-blowing/denial-enabling this morning, it's so obviously dead. Gilmore Girls has already been buried. A month from now, The Sopranos joins it in the TV cemetery. Wow, that's a lot of bad death metaphors right there.

But I might not be feeling so mournful if I had more than one appointment show coming back in the fall. (And speaking of that show, yes, I raced home tonight to see the Office finale, but I won't post about it until tomorrow. I came away with surprisingly mixed feelings that I'm hoping a rewatch will help me sort out. Also, I'm glad that the rumors about it being stretched to an hour turned out not to be true and am really looking forward to those 30 episodes.) Now I'm really hoping Friday Night Lights and/or Heroes wow me on DVD this summer.

As for new shows, there are four that pique my interest. Bionic Woman got a lot of positive attention this week. I first heard about it a while back, but it wasn't until it registered that it was being developed by Battlestar Galactica's David Eick -- pretty much your go-to guy for reimagining cheesy 70's sci-fi as something weightier -- and would co-star that show's awesome Katee Sackhoff (who is apparently so good in the pilot that they're not killing her off in it as originally planned) and the excellent Mae "Ann Veal" Whitman that it became required viewing. Behold: potential. )

Then there are two remakes of British shows. CBS has Viva Laughlin, its version of the very fun Blackpool that I doubt even Hugh Jackman will be able to make work. And over on NBC is The IT Crowd, its version of...The IT Crowd. But even with Graham Linehan (of Black Books and Father Ted renown) involved, it's hard to imagine Office-style lightning in a bottle being caught again. And finally, of course, there's Amy Sherman-Palladino's new half hour on Fox, The Return of Jezebel James.

Which brings me back to my initial problem. Along with the IT Crowd, it's a mid-season show. And Battlestar Galactica, Lost (thumbs up to the 2010 exit plan!), and (ahem) Torchwood aren't returning until 2008 either. Sure, winter will be great, but man, that's a long wait for properly full TiVo. And looking at the grid with the rumors about Lost being moved back to an earlier time slot in mind, I'm seeing a potentially problematic pileup on Wednesdays that my single tuner unit won't be able to sort out. Argh!

So, how about you? How's your TV schedule shaking out? Do any cancellations have you fuming? Which new shows are you anticipating with bated breath? Will you come over and hang out with me on my now-desolate Tuesday nights? Discuss!

Oh well done, Lost. Well. Done. Don't look now, but I think a J.J. Abrams show may be about to get all the way through a third season without totally botching it!

I'm telling you, if you stopped watching, do yourself a favor and catch up, especially if you can do it in time for next week, which looks like it's going to be very satisfying.

Sure, they've stumbled a couple of times, but Lost has quietly, earnestly worked its way back into my heart this year. A few more episodes like tonight's (and the similarly strong "Flashes Before Your Eyes" and "Enter 77") and I'm declaring it officially returned to my good graces. Because I'm sure all involved were concerned about its position on my own personal approval matrix. But still, pleasant surprise!

Anyone else still watching and enjoying?
